Chris Lynn is a multifaceted filmmaker and Sound Artist from Maryland, USA. His work has been screened at festivals and galleries in the United States, Europe and Mexico. His short films focus primarily in urban and rural landscapes. His sound pieces are an assemblage of field recordings, ambient pieces, and soundtracks from his films.
I personally have stumbled upon Chrisâ soundpieces through the various releases he has out on Earth Monkey, Electronic Music and Misspelled Records. Through time I have always enjoyed his works a lot and when Chris knocked on JNNâs door for a future release I was well stumped and immediately took him in. And I have certainly been rewarded with a fine release filled with fragile yet beautiful soundscapes from what appear to be recordings somewhere in Asia. But I believe that is not the common factor of this release. Having heard this now a few times there is a timidness in these recordings, something that nourishes the listeners ears and soul and refreshes the mind.
If youâre a fan of field recordings then this is a release not to be missed. Donât say you havenât been warned!
It was somewhere in 2009 that through NTNS radio I first heard of this Hungarian artist. I had played an album from him that was released on Amduscias Records and I loved that to bits. The silence after that settled in untill early August Szentpétery contacted me and asked me if I was interested in releasing his latest album. Without hearing even a single tone I welcomed him onboard and new that I would be proud of this fine fine release.
And so it did turn out to be; this 12 track album that floats on soft noise, dark ambience but most of all a great atmosphere of abstract experimentalism. Today is the day that you get to hear from this artist. Put up your feet and relax to the hypnotizing works from Szentpétery, your chance is now!
Of Places and Moments is a celebration of the art of field recordings. The tracks to be included utilized recordings from the Sounds Found Project, a repository of user-contributed field recordings. The source recordings were mangled, manipulated, abused and violated, in some cases beyond recognition, to create 18 distinctly different interpretations ranging from minimal drone, to noise, to electronica.
Hailing from Braga, Portugal are Risco Corrosivo and Paranoid Doll. More industrial and more loudness after the delicate experimentalism will sooth your ears when in dire need of release of the chaotic. This very diverse album ranging from lo-fi to noise will certainly peak your interest.
The idea for the album âDos Caminhos do Velho Mundoâ is a roadmap of poetry from Portugal to Russia, for each country a poem by a poet of that nation. Was chosen Portugal -Hilário Borges, Spain -Miguel de Unamuno, France -Alfred de Musset, Germany -Jakob van Hoddis, Czech Republic -Rainer Maria Rilke, Poland -Adam Mickiewicz, Belarus -Yanka Kupala and Russia -Alexander Blok. Besides the concept mentioned above, this work shows the evolution of Z.O.T.E. the musics more low-fi songs (from the earlys) contrasts with the latest music, something purposeful so that it represents our evolution and our way of composition made by the pure improvisation without any direct musical influences.
Project: Created in May 2009, â A Maïzing session with…â is dedicated to live improvised music and organised at the Maïzing Studio in Paris, by Anton Mobin.
The programmation is established according the meeting and the artist who come in tour in Paris.
For the first saison (May 2009-May 2010), â A Maïzing session with…â was 13 radio shows with 22 european artists.
Date: July 21th, 2010
Artists: Mystahr – Ian Linter – Anton Mobin
For the passage of Mystahr in Paris, Ian Linter and Anton Mobin decide to join their forces to organize several sonic events to celebrate this occasion.
Each artists are in contact on the web since a long time, but never have the opportunity to meet together.
Thatâs done on July 21th, 2010 at the Maïzing Studio in Paris, where these three friends set up their complete gear to a special two hours radio show !
The Maïzing session was divided in two different parts:
First, each artist present a solo set around twenty minutes, which is the better solution for everyone to discover the sound of each other. Then, all three join for the real Maïzing session of 40 minutes, during this one three sound universe collapse in a singular one.
After the session, Mystahr and Ian Linter, both owner of a fantastic netlabel, decide to release the two different parts in an identificable netrelease: Three solos on OFF/BRUMA and the collective improvâ on Just Not Normal.
JNN103 – A Maïzing session with…
OFFB015 – Three solos
Another first timer on Just not Normal we are proud to present is Jonathan Ewald from Madison Wisconsin US better known under his artistname Litmus0001. There may not be as many releases to his name but those that are are sublime. Tending more towards the ambient rather then the experimental these three tracks have specifically been chosen to feature on Just not Normal. During 2009 Jonathan presented a podcast/mix show on the Notheen radiostation called ‘Psychosonic aether’ which ran for 21 episodes. All his releases are free releases and he is a fervent appreciator and supporter of the creative commons world.
Improvised and recorded in a single take on March 7th, 2010 at Worthless Research Laboratories in Madison, WI.
6 string bass; electric guitar; percussion; AM radio; effects; loops and delays
With the utmost honor Just not Normal presents the fantastic music of the Spanish Carlos Suarez. Exporing the poetry of Artaud, this masterpiece was originally intended as a physical CD release, but as Carlos said; he is more interested in exploring new sounds rather then setting out to find a label to be published. We could not have been more proud to have him sign on for this grand release. Darkness has set and settles in your ears!
About the poet/poem: (only in Spanish)
2.- Vulgus veritatis pessimus interpres (Artaud).
A Artaud

And once again Dennis Moser brings us another deep hour long episode of the monthly Full Moon Concert series.
Another hour of experimental improvâ that seems to have taken a diversion from the soft and sweet ambient that we have gotten to know in this series. This episode will certainly whet your apetite and make you yearn for its successor.
A year with Luna: 12 monthly meditations on the Full moon
Volume seven: Vergessen. Verloren. Verwandelt. Verlassen.
Music performed by Dennis Moser (aka AldoManutio Abruzzo or âusr/sbinâ)

YES! You are certainly reading this right. A brand new catalog has rissen amidst the fireworks that is called Just not Normal.
IMC is short for Intelligent Machinery Compilations! And for those who know the background of how Just not Normal came about they will know it is birthed from NTNS radio. And long before NTNS radio the second edition as we know it today came about there once was NTNS radio before. From late 2004 till early 2007 NTNS was around already and back in those days it was hosted by John Ingram. Alongside he ran a netlabel called Intelligent Machinery. As I know all to well myself that I could never fully give up on music and the world around it John returns today in the realm of releases.
Starting with this very special compilation you will find here special projects initiated by the master himself and now nested within the compounds of Just not Normal. This is only the beginning!!!!
It was in 1975 that a group of high school friends started calling themselves the Mental Hygiene League. The name was chosen to represent the gathering together and sharing of their artistic musings and wistful discoveries. 35 years later, this small group of free-thinkers has expanded into a cultural and artistic phenomenon that has bridged generational gaps. Collected here for the first time is an offering of sonic meanderings from an assortment of people who are of the Mental Hygiene League: some tracks are solo performances and others are live group ensembles, but all tracks are truly Hygienic.
Reaching the halfway point of this full moon concert series one may wonder; can it go deeper, can it go better.
The answer is given by the artist himself in this sixth edition. A near full hour of a single track improv that rocks the boat.
Droney ambient culled with the fingerprint guitar sounds and solos of the master himself. Let not these words keep you from downloading this album on the spot. You will not regret it.
A year with Luna: 12 monthly meditations on the Full moon
Volume six: All on a night in June
Music performed by Dennis Moser (aka AldoManutio Abruzzo or âusr/sbinâ)
Live in Second Life on June 26th 2010
for the Full Moon Lunacy Concert series, 2010
And in the darkness lives the mysterious. Or in other words what happens when an experimental artist from Mexico (Roberto Telles Garcia) gets head to head with a French mistress of the experimental soundage (Murielle Gallon) and complete the quartet of brotherhoods with Kalavazombie on synth and programers and Simio Autodidacta for pics and art.
Their assignment: Express in sound the musings on human metamorphoses.
For certain they have reached their degree in deep dark experimentations and surprising sounds dithered with hidden messages.
It is dark, it is brooding, it is Apocalyptic!
From Spain, this multi experimentalist dares walk on the dark side of sounds as one would go shopping at the supermarket. His varried pallet of sounds has matured much since the establishement of Jazznoize in 2005. Sergio Sánches Nicolás uses field recordings transforming them a lot or at all, technicians of loop, audible errors, or the slow sounds like pure example of transformation of the means. If youâve never heard the eerie sounds of this Spanish meister then let this opportunity not pass you by and join in this special treat for the ears.
Are you prepared to take on a journey of live and improv’ed experimentalism. Are you willing to open your ears and mind for the unusual that took place live on stage. This French artist has before released a few albums on the Belgium Entity netlabel of which my first encounter was with the ’2 humans in a cage with their everything box’. An intriguing title don’t you think?
Well that was exactly what lured me into a peak listen and an immediate play choice for NTNS radio. Now two years later they are back as Planetaldol and of one thing you can be certain. Your mind will be taken on quite the fantastic voyage.
Recorded live at the Canibal Canniche festival, held in Berlin May 2nd 2010
Mastered by Final Cut
The third second releaser comes from Brighton, UK. Paul Nadin, or better known as Voder has previously released his most beautiful album ‘Island’ on the fantastic Distance Recordings netlabel.
Where before he used the recordings of a visit to Iceland to create an aural description of the various locations which he visited and made field recordings of, this time he takes us to the fields. Which fields as of yet are unknown, but I think in all of us slumbers that hidden field of our youth that this music so well captures. Take a trip down memorylane and join in on this 6-track album of pure joy.
Another album that was sent to me early March. But it was untill I’ve started preparing this album that I fell deeply in love with the sounds and atmospheres here. As the title of the album suggests, much of its content is based on ice, and no no thin ice in here, but thick and most wondrous layers of ice will subdue you into a parallel world of cristals and frozen water.
When at one point the world may have lost its icecaps there will still remain the memory through sound. My suggestion; dive deep into this spectacular release of beautiful tones and lovely tapestries of delight.
“Für die Soundaufnahmen standen verschiedene Gläser, die mit unterschiedlichen Mengen Wasser gefüllt waren, auf einem Tisch. Diese Gläser wurden zum Klingen gebracht. Die dabei aufgezeichneten Töne wurden geschnitten, gefiltert, modifiziert und zu Tonkollagen verarbeitet.”
Translated:
“For these soundrecordings several glasses fill with different amounts of water stood on a table. These glasses were trembled; the recordings of which got cut, filtered, modified and molden into a soundcollage.”
For the longest time I’ve admired the works of AAGSF very much. AAGSF or in the longer version: Aliens A Galactic Sound Flanks hails from Moscow Russia and has to date released many a beautiful album on the Russian RusZud netlabel. I am not sure if he has released outside of RusZud a lot, but let this moment be one for you to get acqainted with the subtle and deep works of this sound meister.
The matter cannot appear and cannot disappear. As also project AAGSF was always. Sounds of novel galaxies, civilizations. AAGSF a heritage of global infinity. Each track – is direct contact since 2005. AAGSF – mysterious noise the project from Moscow (Russia)
Ever since I came in touch with the music of Joe Frawley I was instantly sold. That first I heard was Ritual Research on Clinical Archives which was like a potpouri of fushioned styles though an elevated level of musicianship sounded throughout the entire album. Since that time I’ve always tried to keep up to date with his works, but timemanagement is not an easy task. And then there was Angel Boxes; Joe himself wasn’t too certain how listeners would respond to this what I would call modern classical opera. But when my ears heard this again I fell in love. Rachel Rambach is the vocal in here that perhaps not shatter the glass but her singing sooths and the work Joe adds to this brings out a new definition of opera-singing.
Rachel Rambach, voice. Joe Frawley, piano & electronic arrangement. Music composed by Joe Frawley except False Memory and Red Moon by Joe Frawley/Rachel Rambach. Looking Glass composed by Rachel Rambach.
The illustrous French duo aka Fred and Anne or better known as Achnn return once again to Just not Normal with a full fledged album. Seven tracks that immediately gnaw at the core of your brain with a lot of recognizable acoustic sounds but treated and placed in such a way that soon you’d imagine yourself in a Lynch world of excitement and tension. One might at times even think to hear the great electronic experimentalists from the 50’s and 60’s in these pieces, making this album a timeless work. Just not normal is proud to host Achnn and Les draps et la plinthe. This is a must see movie…
Recorded at the Maïzing studio – Paris, on december 13th, 2009.
Selecta by Ayato at La Ferme Là – Olivet (France), on february 2010.

He studied film and video at the College of Santa under the tutelage of pioneering media theorist Gene Youngblood and media artist David Stout. He has studied experimental composition and sound art privately with composer David Dunn. Martin’s work is multiplicitous and makes use of drone, graphic and text scores, digital computers and software, custom analog electronics, field recordings, noise, custom instruments, and site specific performance. He performs often in various ensembles in New Mexico, including the Ancestral Groan Liberation Orchestra; the Soundpainting Orchestra of New Mexico; and The Transducers.
Izisk is his second full album release where he goes beyond the experimental. These highly avant guarde tracks taunt the ears and brain and take you into a world of fantasy, the unique world of Martin Back.
I suppose these are unrehersed jamms that get lucky.
Most of the time these are the jamms that get sampled for Radio Scotvoid’s studio recordings.
We thought you’d like to hear some of the jamms in full.
It is about as close as you’ll get to hearing this project live as unfortunatly (or not) these jamms will never be heard the same again.
The My Brother Daniel live project has it’s roots in surrealism, jazz/funk, ambient/acid house and DIY/Bent recording stylings.
