Over the next several weeks we’ll be bringing you some much longer than usual New Waves podcasts featuring a diverse selection of immersive compositions.

The first of our summer series is an intimate 45-minute chamber opera. On your headphones the work may have something of the flavour of an old-style radio-play.

The opera is called Turbulence. It’s by international composer-collaborator Juliana Hodgkinson and Australian librettist Cynthia Troup, developed and produced by Melbourne’s Chamber Made Opera through retiring artistic director David Young’s Living Room Opera project.

The performers are soprano Deborah Kayser as the mother, with actor Anneli Bjorasen as her daughter. Live sound and sound design is by Jethro Woodward.

The performance was recorded in situ in a private house in Northcote, Melbourne, by ABC Classic FM sound engineer Chris Lawson and producer Haig Burnell.
