Op 5 april 2012 vond in WORM in Rotterdam een concertavond plaats met als titel Radio Radio. Het programma bestond uit twee tape komposities die in opdracht van WORM werden gemaakt (captively assigned van Audrey Chen & Luca Marini en Future Movement IV van One Man Nation, Jimbot and Bambu Wukir), een live-hoorspel van The Tobacconists, een Multi media performance met beelden en geluiden van de maan door de Italiaanse multimedia kunstenares Daniela de Paulis en een muziekoptreden van voormalig Ultra prominente Truus de Groot. Dit alles gelardeerd met interviews met de betrokkenen. In de Café Sonore uitzending van 24 juni 2012 krijg je een impressie van deze bijzondere concertavond waar Armeno Alberts als moderator alle acts aan elkaar mocht praten en korte gesprekjes on stage had met de artiesten.

Radio Radio
WormRadio/radioWORM is afkomstig van het live-gebeuren en de eeuwigdurende zoektocht naar een podium voor onalledaagsheid. Zowel op radiofonisch/geluids gebied als op documentair/menselijk gebied. In het kort gezegd; eind jaren 90 inspireerde de electronische revolutie in de rock & experimentele muziek de stafleden van WORM tot de gedachte dat het live optreden eigenlijk net zo goed als radio gebracht kon worden (omdat het ‘performance’element ten ene male ontbrak), tegenwoordig inspireert de ‘content is overal’-revolutie ons tot de gedachte dat we juist moeten inzetten op een ‘schaarste’ revival. Als de podcasten en streaming content voor het oprapen ligt is het misschien zaak van de radio weer een ‘hot medium’ te maken bijvoorbeeld door middel van onherhaalbaarheid zoals ons RADIO RADIO evenement op 5 april. Hoewel het geheel ook live gestreamed wordt en dus eigenlijk als ‘radio’ uitzending (met beeld`) over de gehele wereld te volgen is.
Het programma bestaat uit interviews met alle betrokken, twee Tape Composities die in opdracht van WORM zijn gemaakt, een live-hoorspel, een Radio Performance en tot besluit een muziekoptreden.

Daniela de Paulis
OPTICKS borrows its name from the pivotal essay by Isaac Newton on light refraction. It is a live performance during 

which digital images are sent to the moon in form of radio signals from a dish situated in Brazil, the UK or Switzerland and received back by Dwingeloo radio telescope in The Netherlands. The ‘moonbounced’ images are projected in real time during the performance and accompanied by sounds composed for the project by musician and sound researcher Marty Quinn. The conceptual framework for the sounds is also based on Newton’s theories: the great scientist dedicated in fact part of his research to the representation of a ‘colour music disc’ in which he associated each colour of the light spectrum to a musical note. The performance is introduced by live sounds of amateurs radio signals captured by the Dwingeloo antenna tracking the moon.

Truus De Groot
Truus de Groot’s musical career spans over the last 3 decades. Born in Eindhoven, The Netherlands she debuted as a chanteuse just at the beginning of the Punk craze in 1976. Playing in a number of Dutch bands she released her first single in 1979 on the Plurex Label with a duet called “BandT Plus Instruments”. Playing odd electronic instruments, Bass and vocals, most of their performances were improvised. She teamed up Michel Waisvisz, the inventor of the Crackle Synthesizer in numerous performances. At the same time she was also the lead singer in the popular Dutch New Wave Band “Nasmak”. Who released an album, again on the Plurex Label, in 1980, “Instruments Plus Nasmak / Nasmak Plus Instruments”.  After hundreds of performances all through Europe Truus was looking for more challenges and in 1981 got on a plane to NYC never to call the Netherlands her home again. Armed with background tapes of electronic percussion she reformed Plus Instruments with Lee Renaldo (now in Sonic Youth) on guitar and David Linton on Drums, while Truus played Bass and sang Lead Vocals. With this line-up they hit the New York club scene, released an Album “February April ‘81” on the Dutch Kremlin Label and took off on a European Tour. After returning to the US Truus again reformed the band with a number of musicians always very active on the club scene both in NY and Europe. At the same time she worked on her solo career performing at the famed “Kitchen” in Soho and playing with Rhys Chatham.
In 1983 she hooked up with James Sclavunos ( Lydia Lunch, Sonic Youth, the Cramps and now with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds & Grinderman) to start a completely new chapter. She took a U-turn from the Electronic Euro-Beat and temporarily moved to Memphis to start Trigger & the Thrill Kings with Jim Duckworth (Gun Club) playing a very raunchy Blues, country rockabilly mix in a dynamic three piece line up with Truus on Bass and lead vocals. Again they toured throughout Europe and the US and released various records. Although, sadly, the original line up never saw its collaboration released. Towards the end of the 80’s through the late 90’s Truus took a hiatus from the Music business.
In 1998 she married renowned artist Bosko and moved to Escondido, CA. Inspired by Bosko’s love for Polynesian Pop and encouraged by him to share her creations with the world, she finally decided to release a brand new CD entitled Muzotica in 2000 with follow-up Rancho Exotica. Her last CD in the Exotica genre is “Ritualis” which came out early 2009 – all of these feature her own original compositions with a unique take on Exotica Music.
Truus’ New CD “Dance with Me” (Truus Plus Instruments) was released July 1, 2011. The 5th CD on her very own “Dewclaw Ditties” label features 13 original tracks of mostly driving Synthesizer Dance Music reminiscent of her earlier work in the late 70’s and 80’s – and a few chosen ballads of heartbreak. It has been almost 30 years since the last full length album for Plus Instruments. The album was mastered and produced by James Sclavunos and Peter Mavrogeorgis.

The Tobacconists
In April 2009, Scott Foust (Idea Fire Company, XX Committe, Tart, and the Swill Radio label) was invited to screen his feature length movie Here’s To Love in Europe, as well as staging his The Four Accomplishments performance. The trip to
Europe also gave him the opportunity to join musical hands with Frans de Waard (Beequeen, Freiband, Shifts, Kapotte Muziek), who had been on tour with Idea Fire Company in 2005, resulting in the IFCO album Vital – Live In Europe. As both Scott
and Frans are heavy smokers, they settled upon The Tobacconists as the name for their collaborative musical venture (Ashtray Temple was considered, then rejected).
Scott and Frans got to work in the Extrapool studio, composing six pieces using a small keyboard, an echo machine, a radio, some pre-recorded tapes, a laptop, and some contact microphones. Then, they took the road to perform in the Netherlands,
Germany, Belgium and the UK. At the end of their tour, they spent a week conducting proper studio recordings of all six pieces plus a seventh, ‘The Dark Secrets Of Dr. Perati’, which was released as a 7” by Plinkity Plonk/Swill Radio. The original six pieces from the tour, now in glorious full mixed version will be released on LP very early 2012 by Economy Of Brevity (UK), along with a bonus CD with their 2011 radio play ‘Smoking Is Green’– a radiophonic opera in four cigarettes.

Future Sound Of Folk Tape Composition
The Future Sound Of Folk -One Man Nation, Jimbot and Bambu Wukir- did a tour in december and spend some time

the WORM studios. Itt was their first time together in a studio. So they made lots of stuff and gave us this track, ‘Future Movement IV’.

Kamama Tape Composition
Kamama -Audrey Chen en Luca Marini- did a residency in the WORM studios last december and provided us with 4 great tracks called; ‘ captively assigned’.

Vincent Denieul
Vincent Denieul is a radiomaker/soundartist from Paris. He will talk about his work and maybe show 1 or 2 examples.
