America’s only festival devoted to the performance of audio works projected in three-dimensional space, The San Francisco Tape Music Festival features four distinct concerts of classic audio art and new fixed media compositions by 32 local and international composers. Hear members of the SF Tape Music Collective, along with guest composers, shape the sound live over a pristine surround system (24 high-end loudspeakers) with the audience seated in complete darkness.<\/span> It’s a unique opportunity to experience music forming – literally – around you.<\/p>\n The 2016 Festival begins by showcasing the entire range of the \u201cfixed media\u201d art form. Both Friday and Saturday 8pm concerts include a diverse range of music: from cinematic \u201cradio plays\u201d to abstract acousmatica – from sound-design works to full-spectrum drones. Iconic works by JAVIER ALVAREZ<\/a>, BEBE + LOUIS BARRON<\/a>, JOHN CHOWNING<\/a>, TOD DOCKSTADER<\/a>, PAUL LANSKY<\/a> + BRAD GARTON<\/a> + ANDREW MILBURN<\/a>, and TETSU INOUE<\/a> + CARL STONE<\/a> will be presented.<\/p>\n Featured Bay Area composers include LEAH REID<\/a>, MAGGI PAYNE<\/a>, MATT INGALLS<\/a>, ADAM HIRSCH<\/a>, CLIFF CARUTHERS<\/a>, THOM BLUM<\/a>, TOM BICKLEY<\/a>, L.J. ALTVATER<\/a>, and JOSEPH ANDERSON<\/a>. <\/p>\n The Saturday 11pm show is a special concert surveying a history of works originally intended to be performed over a multichannel surround sound system. Classic compositions by IANNIS XENAKIS<\/a> and MORTON FELDMAN<\/a> will be performed alongside recent works by ELIZABETH ANDERSON<\/a>, BJARNI GUNNARSSON<\/a>, and the Bay Area duo, VOICEHANDLER<\/a> (JACOB FELIX HEULE and DANISHTA RIVERO). <\/p>\n Sunday\u2019s concert features large scale works by FRAN\u00c7OIS BAYLE<\/a> and FRANCIS DHOMONT<\/a>.
