Composed in 1992, this dramatic and gritty electro-acoustical work is scored for brass quartet, four percussionists and live electronics. "Aspects of the physical structure of a volcano are applied to control musical elements...the change from a solid (earth) to a liquid (lava) is modeled by the transformation of the acoustic sounds into electronic sounds...a primordial state of flux" (C. Brown). The electronics create fascinating "3D imaging" illusions.
