Comentario Autor / Author Review:
El Archivo Municipal de Alicante es un antiguo palacio del siglo XVIII. En este lugar, ya en el año 1993, realicé un estreno absoluto como encargo del CDMC "PALIMPSESTO DE AGUA", instalación sonora/performance sobre bloques de hielo. Casi ocho años después sentí la necesidad de volver a este lugar y sus gentes, que entonces me albergaron a mi y a mi obra. Fue el silencio del lugar lo que me llamó la atención.
Es un silencio piadoso y se parece al silencio de la iglesia: atención, concentración, el eco del espacio y algunas interferencias físicas humanas como el toser, el carraspear o el limpiarse la nariz. Durante mis investigaciones y grabaciones tenia puestos los micrófonos soundman en los oídos y me sentí como un médico que ésta a la escucha del latido del corazón de su paciente.
Estuve a la escucha del latido del corazón del Archivo y seguí archivando: el murmurar, el cuchichear en las salas, el ruido del aire acondicionado y de los fluorescentes, el silbar del portero, el sonar del teléfono, las campanas de San Nicolás, cuyo sonido entraba hacia dentro, el sonido de los pasos en los largos pasillos, subiendo y bajando las escaleras, traspasando un edificio medio laberíntico.
The ARCHIVO MUNICIPAL in Alicante is a former palace (Palacio Maisonave) from the 17th century. I performed the premiere of a piece there in 1993 that was commissioned by the CDMC. The piece was entitled ?PALIMPSEST AUS WASSER? (Water Palimpsest), a sound installation/performance that took place atop blocks of ice. Eight years later, I was compelled to visit that same place and its people again?a place that had been home to me and my art. It is the silence of the place that interests me. It is a reverent silence almost like in a church: a tense atmosphere, one of concentration.
The echo effect of the space is sometimes pierced by the sounds of bodies: people clearing their throats, coughing, or blowing their noses. While I was researching and recording there with Soundman microphones stuck in my ears, I felt like a doctor with a stethoscope listening to the heartbeat of one of her patients. I thus listened to the archive?s heartbeat and recorded its sounds: people whispering in the reading rooms, the sound of the air-conditioning system and the neon lights, the whistling janitor, a telephone ringing somewhere, the church bells permeating into the building, footsteps walking down hallways and up and down stairs. Footsteps that were wandering around a labyrinthine building.

Rilo Chmielorz nació en 1954 / Lünen/Westfalen. Actualmente vive en Madrid, trabaja como artista multimedia en instalaciones audiovisuales, performances y radio arte.
En 2002 obtiene el "Production Award of the radio WDR3, studio for acoustic arts within German Sound Art Award". Colecciones públicas y privadas includen sus trabajos. Ha presentado numerosas exposiciones individuales, conciertos-performance e instalaciones sonoras en galerías, museos y festivales internaciones de arte sonoro y música en Europa, Méjico, Cuba y Hong Kong.
En el 2004 Rilo Chmielorz y Pedro López fundan el colectivo artístico "JARDIN DE LAS DELICIAS" (GARDEN OF DELIGHTS).
Rilo Chmielorz was born in 1954/ Lünen/Westfalen. Actually she lives in Madrid working as a multimedia-artist in sound-visual installations, performances and radio-art.
In 2002 she obtained the Production Award of the radio WDR3, studio for acoustic arts within German Sound Art Award.
Public and private collections include her work. She has presented countless individual exhibitions, concert/performances, and sound installation in galleries, museums and international music- and soundart-festivals in Europe, Mexico, Cuba and Hong Kong.
In 2004 Rilo Chmielorz and Pedro Lopez found the artists-collective
"JARDIN DE LAS DELICIAS" (GARDEN OF DELIGHTS).
