logreybeam and various artists . rem.rem

image

Our third release has been on the tip of our tongue for a while now. We’re very excited, honered and flustered to present a longtime favorite artists of ours, Logreybeam’s newly remastered rerelease of ‘ It’s all just another aspect of mannerism ‘ put out by Type back in 2004. Since then, the album has been an exemplary study of experimental electronic music.

Remrem by Logreybeam / it’s all just another aspect of mannerism remastered by Camomille

Much to the flavor of logreybeam’s album and his time with Yasume, we also present you 9 remixes from artists just as influential to us : sense, proswell, proem, bot23, setzer, evac, e-sin, ilkae and craque. While listening to these remixes might overwhelm us enough to shed a tear for the deceased m3rck imprint, the creeping, crackling, ticking tinkering of these tracks warm our hearts and our vocal chords scream ‘ IDM is not dead ! ‘.

Ekca Liena . Sleep Paralysis

image

This is a collection of tracks that were made around the time of the Dead Pilot Records full length ‘Sleep Paralysis’ – a couple that didn’t make the final album and a few alternative versions. Since they have been sitting around gathering digital dust, and will never turn into anything else, I offer them free to download.

The last track ‘Sleep (Minimal)’ is almost the same as the opening track from ‘Sleep Paralysis’ but comprises of only the base drone over which the additional elements are layered. Feel free to use this as a platform for your own jams, manipulations or for any other purpose. It would be interesting to see what people can get out of such a sparse, relatively still sound.

Rurihiko Hara . Arabesque Pond

image

Rurihiko Hara is a young japanese artist who delivers us a great album mainly based on piano sounds which are digitally processed in order to describe scenarios, bridges, waterways and landscapes of his native country.

Influenced by the sound of labels like Raster-Noton, 12k and the traditional japanise music Noh, he proves why his tunes have been nominated and broadcasted several times on Ryuichi Sakamoto’s Radio Audition Corner.

Guanxi . Graveyard Shift

image

The Guanxi pseudonym is orchestraed towards ‘a sui generi sound’ through research, investigation and with a hunger to explore a constructed visual and non-subjective disposition.

“Graveyard Shift” contains 5 pieces of complex and playful sounds from guitar, piano, bells, strings, flute, vocals, field recordings and electronics. Some of the pieces have a noisy and harsh character of a musical sketches, others operate with droning elements and a more calm ambience. And some combine both things. If you want to find a category for this, forget it.

For me the most precise analogy would be the sound world of a modern metropolis. You can hear layer over layer of multiple elements which are structured and arranged into a current impression. But it is constantly changing and moving. With every listen you get a different layer of “Graveyard Shift”. One time it seems to be a loud and unorganised cluster of tones, the next time you hear a reduced and humming melody, hidden under other elements before. Be curious and adventurous, you will be surprised.

sonic update . Conference for One

image

sonic update is a project initiated by composers/performers/improvisers Nikolaus Gerszewski and Gustavo Aguilar in which the utilization of an instrument’s full sound-producing capacity mimics and informs the duo’s interest in the social and communicative aspect of making music. In his notes for the original version of Conference, which was scored for percussion sextet, Gerszewski writes:

The piece is essentially a soundscape that makes use of tambourines, shakers, guiros, spring drums, harmonicas, cabassas, sleighbells, slide whistles, bowed cardboard tubes, and the crumpling of newspaper. My aim was to produce, through manual means, sounds that resembled those typically produced electronically. The title, Conference, refers to the fact that the performers are sitting at tables while playing, much like many of today’s electronic music processors (e.g. laptop performers) might do. Yet what is lost when there is no corporeal match between electronically produced sounds and their human interlocutors? Could I recuperate that match by asking performers to interject that corporeality?

In this latest version of Conference (now aptly titled Conference for One since Aguilar is the lone performer), Aguilar tries to create a non-hierarchical and thoroughly re-embodied and interdependent social interactivity between a laptop and a human.

Conference for One is sonic update’s first release.

Wehwalt & Marc-Henri Arfeux . Myrrha

image

Myrrha refers to a greek legend. According to this story, Myrrha, victim of her incestuous father, Cinyras, king of Cyprus, implored the gods to banish her from the world of the living and the dead, after a nine moons restless wandering in the woods. They changed he into a tree. The myrrh is said to be the loading of her tears during her transformation. In the end, through a split in her bark, she gave birth to Adonis, a major god representing death and renewal, who is associated to roses and myrtle.
Although this album is inspired by this legend, it does not follows the purpose to depict the sad adventures of Myrrha, but must be interpreted as a symbol of creation. The music, changeable and always unexpected, begins to develop its mental flow and carries our deep emotions. One hears distant whispers, the breath of wind and the things coming to life from the very core of their stillness, to create a sound painting of man’s and nature’s most secret inner forces.

Heu{s-k}ach . Un

image

«d’incise, our usual suspect when it comes to freejazz, teamed up with Marcel Chagrin (guitar, bass drum) and the Heu{s-k}ach project was born. This is ultimately a live only project, so all the recordings you’ll find here were taken from live gigs. And believe me, you can never be so minimal as this. Effects and guitar effects. Nothing more.

‘Un’ marks a new direction for d’incise’s musical projects. Freejazz as the starting point but with total experimentation as the language underneath. You can never have too many layers of sound, I guess. Absolutely awesome if you’re into experimental freejazz and beyond.

More info about the project here.» – Pedro Leitão

«The album starts with sounds of crushing objects, cymbals and tones of an electric guitar. “Deux” is more quiet and the drony guitar sounds are supported by electronic sounds and bells or something like Tibitan singing bowls. The stringsounds roll closely with the ongoing sounds of these instruments. “Trois” builds up very slowly and the alternation of warm bellsounds and harsh electronics fits really well and moves into a restless noisy end. The last track “Quatre” ends also with a great diversity of sounds and atmospheres created by for example slide guitar, high bell tones. “Un” is the first CD of this new project of the free-minded d’incise. I like the calm atmosphere which he created with Marcel Chargin and the exploration of the most intense combination of soundwaves and rhythms.»
