“Second Violin was an improvisation group featuring Jeff Surak, Zann Hoffman, Adam Bohman and Rinus van Alebeek – I believe the latter two collaborated via the postal system. The busy as ever bee Andrey Kiritchenko remixes, or maybe more appropiate, recycles recordings by Second Violin in his “usual” laptop manner. None of the bands normal work can be easily recognized in here. It beeps and hisses, hums and hisses. With the benefit of hindsight, an essential document presented in a 2 CD set featuring two different aspects of the solo work of this singer. The first presents a detailed experimental exploration of vocal extended possibilities [typological] ?overtones, diphony, vocal gesture, performance- that emerge as a result from research and contemporary music performance (notably, the influence of electronics in vocal research and the encouragement of improvisation through strangement) or reactions to various practices ?action, minimal music- and cultural impasses.

The second CD features a more complex/ compositional/ electronic aspect of her work, featuring samples, multilayering (interacting with her other voice/s) and processing through effects and electronic devices or, simply, the development of an instrumental language that would have a deep impact in subsequent experimental developments.

Con la perspectiva del paso del tiempo, un documento esencial en 2 CDs que incluye dos vertientes distintas del trabajo en solitario de esta cantante. El primero presenta una detallada exploracin experimental de posibilidades vocales ampliadas [tipologa] ?armnicos, difona, gestos voclicos, performance- que emergen de la investigacin y la ejecucin en la contempornea (sobre todo, la influencia de la electrnica en la investigacin vocal y la incitacin a la improvisacin mediante el extraamiento) o reacciones a diversas prcticas ?acciones musicales, minimal- e impases culturales.

El segundo CD alude a aspectos ms complejos/ compositivos/ electrnicos/ e incluye samples, superposicin (interaccin con su propia voz) y procesado mediante efectos y aparatos electrnicos o, simplemente, el desarrollo de un lenguaje instrumental que habra de tener un profundo impacto en ulteriores desarrollos experimentales.

Les miniatures ont rarement un titre. Elles sont numrotes dans une srie elle-mme repre par un mois et une anne ?

Depuis maintenant plusieurs annes, je pratique les miniatures sonores, sortes de points d?interrogations au sein de ma pratique de compositeur. Disperses sur plusieurs supports, disques, revues sonores, concerts, elles prennent maintenant place dans un nouvel espace : la radio.

Formes courtes avec des rfrences au Hai Ku elles n?en sont cependant pas une transposition rigoureuse. Elles retiennent nanmoins l?ide d?un matriau rduit articul ici en trois catgories sonores : La prise de son in situ , le son de synthse, la voix le plus souvent rcupres la radio. Cette segmentation correspond des pratiques sonores prcises qui sont les miennes et non pas un dsir formel d?affirmation de typologie.

Je ralise les miniatures par sries de 3 5. en puisant dans les sons du travail que je mne un moment donn. Il ne s?agit pas pour autant d?lments mis au rebut ou carts mais de petits fragments assembls pour eux-mmes dans la direction d?objets en quilibre entre l?anecdote et l?abstraction, le son comme matriau et comme information simultanment.
