tsone . a sea beyond reckoning

image

Getting into December, we are glad to receive the work of american artist Tsone. We first met him while building up our 25th release, Circles Around The World. Gladly surprised by the consistency of his oeuvre we asked Tony Obr to work out an album for Audiotalaia. Finally, here it is this A Sea Beyond Reckoning.

This album has been conceived as a closed project in which all the elements forming that release are interconnected and related to each other in terms of compositions and sound design. Asking the artist about this work he stated the following:

These works were primarily composed and arranged using a battery of custom built software instruments and effects. I designed the software to function as complex interconnected systems that allow creation to emerge. In this sense much of the aesthetic agency is given over to the systems themselves. Each composition becomes its own environment with its own internal logic which enables the fundamental qualities of a sound to blossom and develop into elaborate structures.Â

Jay Hardin is in charge of the artwork for this release. He has worked out a series of graphite and charcoal drawings trying to build an image for the compositions.

David J Fonseca . Al Borde del Silencio

image

Following our tendency on releasing works from local artists. This october we are glad to present the latest work by Sevillan sound artist David J Fonseca. After many years working on soundtracks and compositions for theater and documentary Fonseca delivers âAl Borde Del Silencio (Something like, âat the edge of silenceâ in spanish).

After releasing on well known Alg-a Netlabel, Fonseca delivers the next step on his personal approach on sound composition. Becoming a trademark of his own style Fonseca presents a collection of minimalistic pieces that explore different ways to display and distribute sound on our auditory perception.

This work ranges from electric-like drones to pure field recordings and explores the dialogues and correlations that can exist between different sound textures. Fonseca tends to create changing structures that sometimes drift to one color and sometimes they change abruptly to something complitley different keeping the audience always ready for the next twist.

Alozeau . Returning Waves

image

After the summer break Audiotalaia is back with a new release. This time we are getting closer to the work of valencian sound artist Josué Coloma. Under his alias Alozeau, Coloma presents a five track EP entitled Returning Waves.

After having released at Coda Netlabel and Chennoir Netlabel, Alozeau presents a synthetic album that explores small topics in each track. It seems that every composition on this album has a concrete topic and theme that is been repeated all along. Despite this consideration the album tells a story that is shifting at every stop. At certain point Alozeau dares to twist our auditory perception with a short track that changes the whole pace of the album, generating some sort of crossroad that will lead us to the final track, Returning Waves.

Finally this release is a very good example of carefully crafted dark ambient work. Coloma shows one more time the healthiness of his experimental project and shares it with all of us.

Philip Sulidae . Meetings At Half Light

image

We are proud to receive again the work of Australian artist Philip Sulidae. After his first release in Audiotalaia (Southwest) Sulidae presents “Meetings With Half Light” a 5 track EP in which we can find a beautiful gathering of drones, soundscapes and textures.

As always the consistency of Sulidae’s work can be seen widely on this 31st release on the label. Sulidae performs here with accuracy and solemnity trying one more time to build a sound space always referring metaphorically to experienced situations confronting nature and landscape.

It’s interesting to remark the combination of electronic drones and field recordings. Sulidae is a composer that plays with multiple layers of sound textures building a slow pace in which the scenes and sensations are appearing in front of you as if the weather were changing slowly.

Again this is a perfect example of ambient music ready to be heard outdoors, on a top of a hill expecting the sunset to take off.

Eemian . Esker

image

Eemian (Aka Alejandro Remeseiro, Konsumprodukt) is the result of an investigation on ambient music. This investigation parts from a sentence that Alejandro read. Te text talked about an ambient music release and the author described the hearing experience as if “you can’t dance this music, it’s like sitting on a Glacier and waiting to se how it melts down”. So Eemian is this, is an abstract approach on how a glacier should sound like. Moreover, the album has always direct references to those nature phenomena, all tracks are named referencing famous glaciers over the world. Finally the sound of Eemian is a properly crafted collection of textures and drones that smoothly are evolving through time. Remeseiro uses a reduced palette of sonorities even though the depth and structure of the pieces is kept producing an uneasy sensation that time isn’t passing by.

Finally we are proud to join a work like that to our catalogue because this si the kind of sound we like and the kind of relationships between landscape and sound that we like to defend and promote. A homage to Glaciers, a homage to the magnitude of nature and a beautiful drone experience.

All tracks arranged and produced by Alejandro Remeseiro.

The image used on the artwork is taken from wikipedia. Uploaded at wikicommons by Schellack. It’s an image taken from Hintertux Glaciar, Austria.

Slow . Flora & Fauna

image

Flora & Fauna is the eleventh release by Russian artist Sergey Suokas. After many releases in labels all around the world this ambient experimental artist presents Flora & Fauna at Audiotalaia. This short EP has been produced using different soundscapes and field recordings from cities such as Stockholm (Sweden) and Berlin (Germany). Slow combines an abstract approach on sound experimentation with layers of recorded soundscapes. The mix of non controlled sound sources with the controllable scope of electronic sound provides an interesting space in which textures, drones and more musical structures merge together forming a strange atmosphere of introspection.

If in Fauna de approach is the one described above, in Flora, Suokas develops a more electroacoustic composition. On this track we can hear combined melodies using traditional instruments, drum kits, pianos and string lines that, as well, are combined with found sounds and soundscapes.

Various Artists : Circles Around The World

image

Circles Around The World is a various artists compilation that can be seen as a celebration of the 25th release in Audiotalaia Netlabel. Over this two years of work we have been releasing works from artist all around the world. For this special occasion we want to deliver a gathering of works under a common concept.

We asked the artists to work under certain premises. We asked them to try to portray some concepts or ideas on those pieces. Those concepts were based on the idea of a circle or cycle around the world, a journey across countries and cultures. The artists have been working on those ideas from the sonic point of view. Some of them have delivered tracks that represent features from the regions where they live. Some others have based their sound on travelling literature translating text into music. Some others have been working on soundscapes and sonic structures from their territory.

All together the compilation becomes a journey across the world, a conjunction of spaces, structures and scapes from all over the world. All of them are a representation of the thoughts and interests of each artist and their own perspective of the world.

Jorge Nunes : Wave / Pulp

image

Audiotalaia is proud to present the work of portuguese artist Jorge Nunes. This is a really special release for us because many reasons. Principally because is the first time that Audiotalaia hosts a work done with non digital processing systems. Also WAVE / PULP is a two for the price of one album. It contains two tracks that are sisters in a really special way. Also it’s the 20th release in Audiotalaia and we want to thank all the people who had made this possible.

Jorge Nunes bases it’s work in live improvisation. He likes to manipulate instruments and non musical objects and synthetisers. And that is WAVE / PULP an experiment where different generes in music merge in two extensive compositions.

Nigul & Mensa. Live Recordings

image

Nigul & Mensa. Live Recordings

[at011 : 18.05.08

Nigul its a project builded to explore and investigate the relationship between fear and sound experimentation. Nigul works with different field recordings, programming synthesizers and appropriating sounds from everywhere. He also plays with sounds from different sources as films or Classical music. Nigul got the influence from Dark Ambient, electronic experimentation and minimalism.

Over layering all this source sounds Nigul builds dark soundscapes fully wrapped of mystery. Sometimes he plays randomly to let strange things happen and to permit delicious coincidences. Aswell with some sound accidents Nigul conforms hes personal approach to electronic music. Its sound it is deep, hollow and dense, Niguls work its a stream where to dive and discover new worlds and fears. The work of Nigul talks about mystery shadows and what remains beneath it.

After a few self-published references and some gigs, In 2006 Nigul starts to collaborate with Strung Label. Since then he has been participating in the activities of the label aswell with the concerts and compilations that Strung releases every year.

In 2007 Far From Showbiz releases the first Nigul EP, this is Esperant la Nit. After that, at the end of December 2007, the Polish netlabel Kaos Ex Machina publishes the first Nigul LP called Pedra, Sang. Early this year the collaboration with the video artist Hipnosia Visual Z Project starts to merge Niguls sound with live processed visuals.

Mensa project was born on the spring 2006 when I was studying in Sweden. the project started to have a concret form after a few months working with the software. The plan was to develope a personal perspective abaut sound experimentation. The project was concived with the aim to be showed outdoors.

All the sounds that I process are thinked to be listened outside, in public spaces or natural enviroments. The whole concept of Mensa project goes arround the idea of estimulate a dialogue between sound experimentation with high-tech possibilities and the natural enviroment, the landscape and the countryside.

The process of production of the tracks goes arround the idea of something that its flowing. I start to work in a concret drone or pad and it can develope in something or not. Nothing its really planed in the process of production so improvitsation plays a really important role. Now a days I’m involved in Strung collective.
