3 volt public art – Call for entries
Deadline January 31st, 2010

The project
Electrohype is to realize a project with 4-6 individual outdoor electronic art pieces located in the central parts of the city of Malmö, Sweden. The goal is that artworks should be totally autonomous and be able to be left alone without the need of supply of electric power or any form of regular maintenance. Therefore each work should be able to run of the power generated from the solar panel pack found in a “standard” garden solar panel lamp.

Background
For the past few years there is a local tradition in Malmo of putting art on pavement stones. People have removed stones and replaced them with stones decorated with laminated photographs, paintings, text and other forms of visual expressions. We at Electrohype find this local tradition charming and honor the artists that have been doing these ad-hoc projects for years. At the same time the tradition can be seen as a claim for art democracy and as a protest against the constant increasing commercialization of public space.

Electrohypes main goal is to promote new art made with new technology, and it is therefore a natural step for us to also try to implement new technology in public street art.

Call for entries
Electrohype encourage artists to deliver proposals for artworks that can be implemented in pavement stones. Apart from the limitation regarding physical size and electric power we are open for any kind of technology. It can be based on images, sound, light, radio signals and other media or combination of several of these.
