EMUfest 2009 international Electroacoustic Music Festival

The Conservatory of Rome presents the 2nd edition of the “International Festival of Electroacoustic Music at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia” Emufest.
The Festival was held from 8 until 15 November 2009.

Last year in November was held the 1st edition of the “International Festival of electroacoustic music at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia, EMUfest. The results have gone beyond our most optimistic predictions: the secretariat received more than 250 works from 32 countries, and among them 80 works are been played. The Festival was attended by more than 50 performers selected among teachers and students of the Conservatory and the public has filled our halls every day. Great importance has to be recognized to the Academic Hall of the Conservatory, which, equipped with an ottofonic system of high quality, allowed executions of very high level. The 250 works presented have been archived into the first “fund for the electroacoustic music” hosted at the Library of the Conservatory St. Cecilia. The Festival was also enriched by the hospitality and collaboration offered by the University of “Tor Vergata”, by the IILA (Istituto Italo – Latin American) and by the French Academy of Villa Medici.

The Conservatory of Rome with the 2nd edition of the “International Festival of electroacoustic music at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia aims to confirm the commitment taken at the 1st edition of 2008 with the public, composers, performers and technicians. A unique event in Italy, during which it will be possible to benefit from the electroacoustic music more representative on the international arena. An appointment in November, in the historical center of Rome, to listen to the today’s music and think about its techniques, its objectives and its means of expression.

On the 2nd edition, the participation of important institutions – both from a logistical and cultural point of view – and will be further enriched by the participation of the Foundation Scelsi and the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma.

During eight days there will be concerts, conferences and special events in different places. Special events will consist of performances of “historical” electroacoustic works. The concerts will be performed by teachers and students of the Conservatory. Students will have the opportunity to establish a living relationship with electroacoustic music, talking directly with the composers and addressing issues regarding technical and expressive works in programme.
The use of the installations, which has aroused great interest in the previous edition, will be extended and distributed in several places.
The selection of works will be conducted through a international call published on internet, with the intent to make a representative selection, leaving the opportunity for anyone to participate.

All compositions received, whether or not chosen for the 2nd edition of the Festival, will be housed permanently at the “fund for the electroacoustic music” at the Library of St. Cecilia.
