In 2006, I (Glenn Weyant) set out to play the U.S./Mexico border wall with a cello bow and implements of mass percussion.

At the time my intentions were simple: To transform this symbol of fear and loathing into an instrument capable of promoting unity, dialogue and compassion through sound and performance.

I called this work The Anta Project.

Three years later I am honored to announce that The Anta Project now has the potential to not only transform the border sonically but also physically by helping fund aid for the migrants who need it most via a collaboration with No More Deaths / No Mas Muertes, a grassroots organization of concerned individuals, faith-based communities and human rights activists working in Southern Arizona and across the Mexican border to address the suffering
and deaths of border crossers to illuminate and rectify problems in U.S. border policy.

With your financial assistance, we plan to release The Anta Project and its companion recording Droneland Security as a limited edition, double-disc set with 100 percent of the profits, that’s right 100 percent of the profits, going directly to support No More Deaths / No Mas Muertes life saving mission.

Additional funding raised beyond the benchmark of $3000 will also go directly to No More Deaths / No Mas Muertes.

As I mentioned, it is an honor to be a part of this collaboration, and with your help we can transform walls into bridges and the borderlands into a place of beauty and peace once more.

Not to mention there’s some pretty cool stuff being offered as our way of saying “thank you” if you do…

The Financial Low Down —

1. $1620 – This is how much it will cost to produce a limited edition, double disc set of 1,000 numbered discs.
2. Roughly 200 of the discs will be used for promotion leaving 800 discs for sale ($20 per disc) netting a potential profit of $16,000 for No More Deaths / No Mas Muertes. It should be noted that costs for shipping and handling will be deducted from the disc sale.
3. And if we reach our benchmark please do not hesitate to pledge. Every cent over $3000 will go directly to No More Deaths / No Mas Muertes and help fund future projects.

Disc One: The Anta Project (2006) – A remixed, limited edition of the original enhanced ambient sound collage compiled from field recordings and covert performances utilizing a cello bow and implements of mass percussion to play the steel wall, barbed wire fences and assorted ephemera that separate the United States from Mexico in the Sonoran Desert.
Disc Two: Droneland Security (2009) – An immersive soundwork for Sonoran
Desert and border infrastructure constructed from roughly 20 hours of
sound recorded over a period of twelve months.

No More Deaths / No Mas Muertes Low Down
Through direct humanitarian assistance to migrants, abuse documentation, networking, education and awareness-building, No More Deaths / No Mas Muertes seeks to put an end to the deaths – of which there have been more than 5,000 since 1998 – of men, women and children attempting to enter the United States for work or to reunite with their families.

Despite the efforts of No More Deaths / No Mas Muertes and other aid organizations more than 183 men, women, and children died in the Arizona desert in 2009. No More Deaths / No Mas Muertes continues to work to end this humanitarian crisis and address its causes in the ongoing militarization of the U.S. / Mexico border.
