In its sixth year, SoundWalk2009, taking place on October 3rd, is an annual art event produced by the Long Beach artist group, FLOOD. The evening operates under the concept of a one-night multi-media experience as conveyed through sound art that is situated in various indoor and outdoor spaces throughout the East Village in Downtown Long Beach.
SoundWalk has become an international event with participants running the gamut from respected figures current in the international scene to up and coming local artists. In addition to the event itself, SoundWalk also sponsors a performance series that serves both as a lead up to the event proper as well as a post-event reflection.
This year, FLOOD will be exploring “connectivity” by expanding both geographically and conceptually. The activation of 1st Street as a “sound corridor” will connect the East Village with Pine Avenue, thus offering both participants and attendees interesting new contexts in which to exhibit and to experience art set forth in sound.
It has been FLOOD’s aim to raise awareness as well as engender an appreciation for alternative artistic practices by exposing audiences, along with the larger community, to aesthetic sensibilities and innovative approaches that exist outside those of the contemporary mainstream.
