Morimoto/Patiño – Ranz Runolff Runge @ Staalplaat

The last evening of the year will have a familiar spirit. Not only because of Christmas, the celebration of red noses, snow balls and glühwein, but also because we will host artists that are with us ever since Le Petit Mignon started of in the Sanderstrasse, in a time way before all the hip folks opened their galleries, ice cream parlors and bio-café’s. I have nothing against the change that has happened to the Lower Neukölln Side; one can only complain about some greedy landlords who took and still take advantage of this situation and raise the rents at rates of 100% at least.
At this point we are well established at Flughafenstrasse. The address itself is right in between the lower and upper part of the area of Berlin where most of the activities seem to take place. To visitors from abroad, from whatever side of the ocean they originate, a visit to the store is a fixed appointment, and also a good way to find out what the rest of Berlin has on offer.
But at the nucleus of all this is a list of artists that stick to the philosophy of happy chaos. Some of them are united on the evening of 18 December. Store floor and entrance will see Claudio Rocchetti in action as DJ. For sure it will get very loud and lively, offering a good introduction to every one who is interested to learn Esperanto. A guest DJ will give Claudio the chance to get sick in the Mainzer strasse.
For the lovers of the finer arts the basement offers two sets. The first is by Ranz Runolff Runge, an artist name of course, from one of our regular guests. Some of you may know him as a radio host or as a DJ. Few of you might know that he is one of the most delicate tape players around, who can easily be compared with the much more notorious Preslav Literary School. In Amazon terms: people who enjoy Preslav’s concerts will also enjoy Randolf’s concert. I give you my word on that!
The other act might come as a surprise to some of you. Seiji Morimoto vs. Ruben Patiño. They have been around LPM and Staalplaat for quite some time now. Seiji surprised with ever new and inventive actions/performances. Ruben’s DJ-sets deserved him fame and praise. But watch out for 2011! Mr. Patiño risks to arrive right at the Mitte of our kind of music. And hit it hard.
Seiji Morimoto is one of those artists hardly known as a collaborator. I have experienced him in duo with Francesco Cavaliere, or with yours sincerely, or in an improvisational moment with Tomoko Sauvage and Momus. In all of these occasions I had to ask Seiji.
Now he proposed to present a duo performance with Ruben. And here I got confirmed something I had expected for a while now: Ruben’s break through as a sonic artist.Seiji Morimoto for his originality and his capacity to translate situations into sound, is an artist who could (and should) operate on the highest levels world wide. I consider it an honor, that he has asked Ruben for this evening.
Both of them are seriously preparing their set since the start of this week. Everyone who cares about innovative music, surprise and risk and a good dose of humor should witness their performance.
