Radial TransferenceÂ pretends to understand the possible relationship between two distinct spaces. These spaces, recorded using a field recording technique, with transfers and contamination between them on an atomic scale, reflect conflict, causality and turbulence. Making reference to the spacesâ€™ characters and with an atomistic approach to the proliferation of frequencies that could resemble an electrical activity that crosses the entire space,Â Radial TransferenceÂ articulates as a transitive reality in a multi-time scale.
The piece generates a compositional sound universe as an entropic dynamic locus of a new ontology. Hugo Paquete explores granular projections of sound in order to build small phrases that articulate and turn over the piece with rhythmic variations and noise. These variations are sometimes operated until a threshold signal that is processing the sound is lost and turns into another sound form that apparently does not associate with reality. Processes of multiple pitch variations, amplitudes, and frequencies of sound build the idea of atomistic electricity and the activity of small scales that relate geometrically and recreate frequencies that cover the nexus in entropic chaos.
Hugo PaqueteÂ (b. 1979, Portugal) is an Intermedia and sound artist, professor of sound art at Escola Superior ArtÃstica do Porto, Portugal (ESAP), and is the head of the Institute of Viral Sonology, an underground institute that develops cross aesthetic and guerilla sound content based in algorithmic compositional methods and actions. His research uses concepts about space and microtonality as visual and audible ecosystems according to spatial and psychological characteristics (acoustic, architectonic, sculptural, perspectival, communicative, evocative and environmental). He uses technical elements and practices from field recording to computer generated sound synthesizing and audio spatialization in his work.
He was a resident artist in the Institute for Music & Acoustics (IMA) at the Zentrum fÃ¼r Kunst und Medientechnologie in Karlsruhe (ZKM) and received a ZKM grant for the development of multimedia projects focusing in sound spatialization and the interaction between sound and psycho-acoustics using multichannel configuring systems and free software. Paquete also was commissioned by Chris Ziegler to develop an interactive composition system for iphones that was integrated in dance media pieces premiered at the ZKM in 2011. In collaboration with the Lithuanian Artist Julijonas Urbonas, Paquete developed the sound composition for the Talking Doors project Â that earned the Prix Ars Electronica in 2010, was recommended by the jury of the 14th Japan Media Arts Festival in Tokyo in 2010, and received an honorary mention in the Media, Live 2011 Grand Prix in Turku, Finland.
Currently, Paquete is developing projects under the nameÂ Institute of Viral Sonology, which focuses on electroacoustic and algorithmic compositions.
