International open call for soundscape miniatures: Sound Devices, Dublin
From Homer to Ezra Pound, from Virgil to Camus, the use as well as the description of sound has been a constant presence in both poetry and fiction. Â Sound Devices is a new series of curated monthly events setting out to explore the creative connection between sound and literature with an exciting program taking place in historical Rathmines Library in Dublin, Ireland.
Sound Devices is currently looking for miniature soundscapes with a literary connection to be included in the programme.  Submitted works, of maximum 8 minutes duration, can be about a specific book (classic or contemporary), character, writer, genre, or reflect on literature as a practice in a more abstract form. All selected sound miniatures will be grouped by themes, and a programme with running order and artists’ biogs will be issued to the audience every event night. Sound works with accompanying video or still images are also welcome.
To submit your miniature (stereo only) please email your uncompressed files using www.wetransfer.com to sounddevicesdublin[at]gmail.com, making sure to include the following:
- Title/ duration/ genre (field recording, ambient, musique concrète, spoken word, etc.);
- A brief description (max 150 words) of your sound piece and its connection to literature;
- A short composer’s biog and website link for the event programme
Deadline: 5th January 2013
