PAUL HESSION | drums

Paul Hession was born in Leeds in 1956. He took up drumming at the age of 15 and since then has played and broadcast in many European & Scandinavian countries as well as Argentina, Mexico, Cuba, USA & Canada. He has played with many of the major figures on the free music scene, such as: Peter Brötzmann, Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, Lol Coxhill, Sunny Murray, Marshall Allen, Frode Gjerstad, Peter Kowald, Joe McPhee, Borah Bergman, Otomo Yoshihide & his old friends Alan Wilkinson, Simon Fell, Mick Beck & Hans-Peter Hiby. Collaborators from a different scene are Squarepusher and dj/producer Paul Woolford. He is known to relish the interaction of collective music-making, but also responds to the challenge of solo performance.

TRISTAN HONSINGER [US] | cello/voice (1949 Vermont). According to Dutch Volkskrant journalist Erik van de Berg, “Honsinger is someone who hasn’t lost his childhood fantasy entirely. His compositions are like a child’s drawing, or even more like a story from Winnie The Pooh: awkward and touchingly simple, yet full of deeper meanings for those who want to see them.” In the same article, Honsinger commented: “Simple things fascinate me, simple stories and simple characters. It’s not that I write for children in particular, but I think they would understand it very well…”

KLAUS KÜRVERS [DE] | (contrabass) born 1950 in Essen (Germany), doublebass studies 1964-68 among others with Peter Trunk. During the late sixties member of the Essen Youth Symphony Orchestra and also at the same time of different amateur Jazz groups (“Free Jazz” since 1967); 1969-71 in Cologne with the Jazz-Rock-Group “Eiliff” (w/Rainer Brüninghaus). Interrupted 1972-2006 his public music activities for his studies and professional scientific career as an architect and cultural historian in Berlin. Since 2006 resumption of his musical activities as part of the Berlin improvisers scene.

DENITSA MINEVA [BG] | violin. Berlin based free improvisor, instant composer. Founder & Head at spiral school of music. Private Violin, Piano, Recorder & Theory Tutor. Worked as Music Specialist at International School Villa Amalienhof and at Istanbul International School. Studied at Academy for Music and Dance Art, Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Vesselin Stoyanov Music High School, Russe, Bulgaria. University of St Andrews, United Kingdom.

DAS APPARAT | VANDENBUSSCHE-HOLTZ-BONEQUI electroacoustic trio

Das Apparat ”is a powerful trio while subtle that blends the tradition of jazz and electroacoustic-free-folk music into improvisations of ascendent grooves & multinstrumental catharsis in real time.”

ZEGER VANDENBUSSCHE [BE] (saxophone and bass clarinet) studied at the royal conservatory of Gent, Belgium. Being an active member of the Belgian jazz and improvisational music scene, he toured in Belgium, Holland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Portugal, playing reed instruments and double bass.

JULIUS HOLTZ [DE] (turntable) found an old turntable on the street at the age of fifteen. He plugged it into his hi-fi amplifier, started to scratch and did fadings with the volume knob. His parents were surprised by the strange noise coming from his room but the professors at the Berlin University of the Arts liked his work and so he studied sound.

JULIAN BONEQUI [MX] (amplified drums and voice) started into music working with improvisers and inmerse in the experimental music scene since 1995 in Mexico City. In 2004 he moved to Europe playing as guest of many ensembles as London Improvisers Orchestra, Berlin Imrpovisers Orchestra, FOCO Orchestra… in 2010 he moves to Berlin and launched “Audition Records” project.
