Mauricio Reyes was born in México City in 1969. He was fascinated by electronic music and sound
experimentation from the age of 12. Beginning with his rst set of Technics 1200 turntables, he
experimented with multiple records playing at once, at times playing them in reverse.

Tetraphony is part the first of the “Ambisonics Trilogy” by Robol. Tetraphony was created using multichannel mixing technology. By encoding and decoding sound information on a number of channels, a 2-dimensional “planar” sound field is presented. Tetraphony is a periphony.

In Ambisonics the term “periphony” (literally, “sound (around) the edge”) is frequently used to denote full-sphere, with-height, 3-dimensional surround – note that in a periphonic system virtual sources can be localised anywhere within the sphere, not only at its surface.

Tetraphony tries to create a sensation of sounds coming from above the listener, and/or a sensation of space above the listener. Tetraphony is a full-sphere reproduction, which includes height and depth, providing the ability to place sounds in any direction including below the plane of the listener.

In addition to a life-time of collecting music and studying a broad range of musical genres, Reyes has also
exercised his creative powers as a graphic designer, for which he studied at universities in Mexico City and
London, UK, as well as Kent State in the United States. His first album “Música Metaphysica,” released in 2010, received critical acclaim and obtained great reviews from Vital Weekly.
