We invite submissions of new digital or electronic instruments for Inventors Composers Coaction 2012, an interdisciplinary collaborative project and concert. These will be reviewed by participating composers, at the University of Edinburgh, who will be able to vote for three instruments in order of preference. Inventors of the selected instruments will be provided with one night’s accommodation in Edinburgh in order to attend the event (April 2012 – to be confirmed), as well as a small contribution towards travel costs. Selected participants may be invited to present a short talk on one aspect of their creative practice.
Instruments may be:
purely software (e.g. built in Max/MSP, Supercollider, Pd)
augmented instruments, including software, sensors etc.
mobile devices that make use of smartphone technology
novel hardware devices, repurposed controllers, NIMEs etc.
may involve novel spatialisation techniques.
Please submit the following to ICCoaction@gmail.com by 6th January 2011:
name of the instrument
images of the instrument
textual description of the instrument (500 words max) covering both musical and technical design aspects, as well as modes of interaction
performance requirements
link to an online demonstration video with clear audio (this may be a live performance, if the instrument’s function is clear
link to online audio examples fully demonstrating the instrument’s musical properties
biography (150 words max)
details of software required (commercial, standalone, VST etc.)
a statement telling us whether you would be happy to provide (i.e. ship) any hardware to the composer for the duration of the project, or if you will offer schematics to build the instrument
optional: a zipped file containing software (all selected participants must provide this to the composers, but applicants can permit this to be freely available on the resource web page).
