Rdeča Raketa

The duo Rdeča Raketa (“red rocket”, after a poem by Srečko Kosovel 1904-26) – Maja Osojnik (SI) & Matija Schellander (A) – is working regularly since 2006 and is focusing deeply on electroacoustic forms of improvised Music. They use an arsenal of instruments from which they choose for each project: Pätzold Bassrecorder, Taperecorders, Toys, E-Bass, Modular Synthesizer, Computer and various electronic devices.
In 2010 they released “Old Girl, Old Boy” on cassette on the fine Viennese label Mosz Records (founded by Stefan Nemeth of Radian and video artist Jade). The Medium cassette was chosen, because the piece features several cassette recorders used as samplers – the instruments becomes the medium of publication. For the listener it gives a different experience and also demands attention.
The same year they also realized the composition “Blendung I-IV” for Rdeča Raketa and 4 vocalists. The piece was commisioned by the ensemble Hortus Musicus.
In 2011 the Filmarchive Austria asked them to compose new music for the silent movies “Daphnis & Chloe” and “Nocturno”. The performance was a great success and for 2012 a bigger cooperation between Rdeča Raketa and the Filmarchive Austria including the production of a DVD is planned.
