cr [9:41], the third in the series zenconcrète, is now online for free download in both mp3 and flac formats at mana.

zenconcrète is a series of four compositions, each a typological investigation of sounds taken from improvisations recorded in March 2010. Free improvisations using hand made prepared microtonal bowed psalteries and zithers, alongside hand made electronic devices, were recorded over several sessions. The material was then edited, the typologies identified and selected. These formed the basis of the individual pieces, which, over time, were refined and crafted to offer four quiet introspective compositions.

The pieces are quiet – the very quiet, subtle and incidental sounds of the prepared instruments proved to have the most character.

All four pieces will be individually released after which a limited edition physical release will document the series.
