Circuit Bending classes will be taught in the mornings, from 10 to 2 pm, so that attendees can explore the surrounding area the rest of the day.
AGENDA AND CONTENTS
Circuit Bending is the creative modifications, based on short-circuits, of low-voltage electronic devices – toys, effects pedals, etc.- to create new musical instruments and sound generators.
The purpose of the workshop is to provide each participant with the necessary knowledge and practice, for once the workshop has finished, he/she know how to modify an electronic circuit in his/her own studio. Necessary electronics will be taught during the workshop. Notes, annotations and explanatory diagrams will be shared. Includes tools and electronic components necessary to modify (potentiometers, resistors, capacitors, LEDs, etc.).
After the necessary electronics have been taught on the first day of class, we will dismantle the toy or electronic device, expose the circuit and become familiar with electronics. During the other days of the workshop we will practice the various techniques of Circuit Bending in the circuit.
At the end of the workshop, participants will have a musical instrument or modified device according to the techniques of Circuit Bending.
Contents:
- Origins and philosophy of Circuit Bending.
- How to use the essential tools.
- Electronics and electronic components (how they work and have an effect on the sound).
- How to know which circuits are better to modify.
- How to look for interesting sounds in the circuit.
- What are the typical modifications in Circuit Bending and how to implement them.
- It will be explained and shown the method of soldering, and how to drill the device box to implement the various electronic components.
- etc.
