Joke Lanz, aka Sudden Infant, known for his performances blending physical sound poetry and dadaistic vocal expressions – often using contact microphones, prerecorded sound loops and noises -, will this evening play turntables. Member of the infamous Schimpfluch collective, singer of the notorious Catholic Boys in Heavy Leather and long time accompanist of Rudolf Eb.er, he has been presenting his work since more than 20 years all over the world. Born in Switzerland and now based in Berlin, Joke Lanz has collaborated with the likes of Z’EV, Carlos Giffoni, Peter Kowald, Christian Marclay, Norbert Möslang, DJ Olive, G.X. Jupitter-Larsen, Christian Weber, Charlotte Hug, Jorge Sanchez-Chiong, Roger Rotor, Strotter Inst, Evil Moisture, Astro, Small Cruel Party and many more. Music for contemporary dance, theatre, sound-installations and films. Innumerable releases on international labels e.g. Entr’acte, RRR, Tochnit Aleph, Blossoming Noise, Artware, Klanggalerie, SSSM.
Arnau Sala is a sound and visual artist based in Barcelona. As a drummer and percussionist he has been part of projects such as the guitar/drums duo Les Aus, spontaneous composition outfit Bèstia Ferida (joining forces with his long-time collaborator Adrián de Alfonso and trumpet player Mark Cunningham from New York no-wave band Mars), Homenatges and dark noise duo Veiled (with Rob Francisco / M Ax Noi Mach). His first solo release, ASDC (2003), kickstarted his intuitive use of no-input mixer, bent electronics and self-built analog synths which would come to define his later solo work and slowly be incorporated in his improvisational practice. As a soloist, he has collaborated live and in the studio with artists like Lydia Lunch, Mark Cunningham, Takehisa Kosugi, Mattin, Agustà Fernández, Ferran Fages, Pablo Rega, Eli Keszler, Rubén Patiño and Macromassa. He has released abundant material on international labels such as Scumbag Relations, Lotus Birth, Senseless Empire and Deep Fried Tapes, among others and including his own, Ozonokids. In 2009, he was one of the selected musicians to take part in Merce Cunningham’s Dance Company event at Mercat de les Flors in Barcelona.
The work of Claudio Rocchetti is a deep plunge into thick sound, investigating its innermost workings. Using a variety of devices such as turntables, audio cassettes, samplers, radios and microphones, often incorporating other objects and traditional instruments, Berlin-based Rocchetti builds compelling structures that employ sound as sheer matter, mass, and impact. The tarry, mesmerizing hues that characterize his “music objects” are grounded in layers of sound detritus. From techno rhythms to slow melodies, edgy constructions to samples of choirs and strings, Rocchetti builds layered structures of elusive elements whose sources are often hidden, and enacts a mirror play which may cause dizziness.
