FON AIR Friday April 15th 13:00-15:00 – Free
Number six in our series of sound works for Barrow Park Bandstand is a new piece by Peter Dent and Davydd Pattinson.
Pete’s current work at UCLAN explores notions of interactivity, including a sound installation that places the listener inside the human body and a video installation that created a digital seance (complete with video ectoplasm). Pete and Davydd’s piece for FON AIR invites visitors to manipulate sounds recorded around various parts of Barrow by moving a cursor around an online satellite map of the town, allowing the sounds of (for example) the soccer ground and the market hall to merge into one another.

Think Outside the Phonebox
In September of last year, artists Mary Stark and Ellie Chaney placed postcards in phone boxes across the South Lakes encouraging people to call a number and leave a message describing their surroundings. As the project progressed it developed to focus on Barrow, resulting in a series of ‘verbal snapshots’ which range from the poetic to the very silly.
The artists will be sharing these recordings as a live sonic performance, and offering those who attend the chance for their description of Barrow to be incorporated into future performances.
FON AIR is supported by Arts Council England, Barrow Borough Council and Barrow Regeneration.
